WHAT IS CUPPING?

Cupping Therapy is a traditional treatment that has been around for thousands of years. It is favored by many worldwide due to its safe, comfortable, and effectiveness on many health disorders and ailments.  Rather than tissue compression, cupping employs the use of suction to create negative pressure.  It is a highly effective modality used to aid in detoxification, pain relief, and energy building. Bodywork such as Deep tissue, Myofascial Release, and Manual Lymph Drainage are easily accomplished through this technique.

The negative pressure created by the suction encourages the release of rigid soft tissue, lifts and loosens connective tissue, drains excess fluid and toxins, and improves circulation to stagnant muscles and skin.  It also feels GREAT!!!  The pulling action engages the parasympathetic nervous system, resulting in a deep relaxation throughout the entire body.  Some have commented on how relaxed, warm, and light they feel hours, even days after.

CUPPING MARKS:

With cupping therapy one may sometimes experience marks or discolorations on the skin.  The common misconception of these marks is that it is bruising. IT IS NOT BRUISING!!! Often when there is a condition within the deeper structures, stagnant fluids (blood, lymph, and toxins) build up.  The suction pulls the stagnant fluids to the surface allowing the circulatory system to clear them away.  This allows healthy circulation to reach the affected or injured area promoting faster recovery.  The color, amount, shape, and speed of the discolorations depends on the level of stagnation and toxicity.  The discolorations fade within a few hours to a couple weeks also depending on the level of stagnation as well as follow up activities.  With cumulative treatments the stagnant fluids will be expelled from the body resulting in diminished color of the marks and less occurrence.
